Description

This oil-on-cloth painting is part of a representative and unique collection of works by the painter Wenzel Peter, from Bohemia, in the Vatican Museums’ Collection.  The piece was acquired in 1831 by Pope Gregory XVI and has since resided in various rooms of the Museum. The restoration process began in May of 2002 and continues during the present time.  The process includes removal of the dust and dirt on the surface and frame of the painting, cleaning the lining of the borders, and replacing parts of the frame.
