The Painting and Wood Materials Restoration Laboratory of the Vatican Museums cares for one of the most extensive collections of High Renaissance masterpieces, which includes some of the most famous and priceless paintings. Many of the works need to be restored in situ due to their surfaces being the actual walls and ceilings of the Vatican Museums’ buildings. These restorers are responsible for the extensive collection of paintings on canvas and panel, the painted walls and ceilings of the Vatican and the painted wooden statuary from the Egyptian Collection.
