HIGH PRIORITY PROJECT
The restoration of these decorative pieces of the Sacred Museum, decorated in enamel, eventually converged in the collections of the Vatican Apostolic Library. The transfer complied with the Rescript of Pope St. John Paul II in 1999 and was placed under the guidance of the Vatican Museums. The series consists of 34 works of the Medieval Period (12th -13th century), following the masters of Limoges (the French center known throughout all of Europe), with rare exceptions of Byzantine, Italian, English, German, and the Meuse Valley (between Belgium and the lower countries) productions. The enameling technique varnishes are either hollow or champlevé, which is obtained by the removal of cooper from the desired design.
