Mosaic

The mosaic lab investigates the ancient executing techniques in order to revive these attractive architectural features and supply guidelines for future restorations by showing the effects of the flow of time. Various methods have been adopted for the removal of previous degraded layers covering the mosaics while correcting the foundational layer. For the conservationists, it is important to understand the antique and methods used by roman craftsmen in their workshops. The mosaic lab has restored several mosaic floors and Roman furniture works in the Braccio Nuovo, The Santa Rosa Necropolis in the Vatican, and mosaic works found in the Catacombs under St. John Lateran.
