Dear Patrons and Friends,
The year 2021 has seen important changes in the Vatican City Sate governance. Cardinal Bertello officially retired in October and Pope Francis appointed the former Secretary General, Archbishop Fernando Vèrgez, to become the new President of the Vatican City State. Some of our chapters who visited last fall had the chance to meet him and experience his commitment to our mission.
We also would like to welcome Sister Raffaella Petrini who Pope Francis named Secretary General of the Vatican City State. She will be of great support to our goals as she stated during her first official visit to our office in Rome last week.
We are looking forward to having you meet her in person during your next visits!
A native of Rome, after working in the Vatican as a lay person, Petrini discerned a call to the religious life in the Franciscan Sisters of the Eucharist who are headquartered in Meriden, Connecticut. She professed her perpetual vows in the Franciscan Sisters of the Eucharist in 2007 and was elected as a member of the General Council in 2017. She holds a Master of Organizational Behavior degree from the University of Hartford, a degree in political sciences from Free International University of Guido Carli, and a Doctorate in Social Sciences from the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas where she was a professor, too. Sister Raffaella, has served the Vatican Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples since 2005.
